Hello and welcome to a Thursday. Since I lucked out and don’t have classes on Friday this term… TGIT, my weekend is here! And so is a reappearance by CSN Stores. As I’m sure most of you have heard of this impressive set of websites that sell everything from cheap bedroom furniture, to kitchen gadgets, to health and fitness gear, I’ll have another opportunity (first one here) to work with CSN Stores doing a product review.
Now I just need to figure out what. Seriously, SO much selection. I’m thinking some type of kitchen gadget since that’s like my favourite room in the hizhouse and it could always do with new additions, but narrowing it down will probably take me a millennia knowing my decision making skills.
Anywho. So that school biz. I’m in it. Sort of getting into the groove now since it’s end of Week 2, though getting into the actual doing work habit isn’t coming so quickly. I’m not quite caught up on readings yet… erg.
I’m spending plenty of time fuelling these not so successful working sessions though. Case in point? The RICE.
One day as I was cleaning out the food cupboard, I discovered a Ziploc baggie filled up with old basmati rice. I didn’t know what I would ever do with it and I rarely cook rice to begin with, but my dislike of food waste made me dump the whole baggie into a pot and cook it all up in the hopes of finding some use for it.
Then it sat in a container in the back of the fridge. Cooked now, but still left lonely and unused.
Well cooked rice doesn’t last nearly as long as uncooked. And I was sensing that my rice stash was starting to move towards it’s bed in the compost. But I couldn’t let this happen. So score my bookmarks I did, and a rice cooking spree I had.
~1 cup cooked basmati rice
1.25 cup chocolate almond milk
1 packet Stevia
1/2 tsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp egg whites
1/4 tsp light margarine
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Following the HG instructions, it was all cooked up in a pot on the stove. I sampled, burnt my tongue, sampled some more.
Like so. Trust that there was plenty more banana. It just happened to move so fast from cutting board to mouth that there was only a lone slice left for the bowl. Oops.
And like so. I had a wee bit left the next day too. Rice and fruit? Why not.
Then came… the Burgers.
Gena’s Homemade Sunshine Burgers – Improvised.
1 cup sunflower seeds, ground in a food processor or coffee/spice mill – I had NO sunflower seeds. So what did I do. Took about 1/3 cup of pumpkin seeds and 2/3 cup roasted bbq seasoned almonds and ground them up.
1 cup cooked
brown basmati rice
2 tbsp ground flax seed
2/3 cup chopped carrot
2/3 cup chopped celery
3 tbsp water
Herbamare vegeta seasoning (or to taste)
I threw it all into a food processor and then baked as per Gena’s recipe.
Obviously mine aren’t exactly Sunshine burger knockoffs since they’re missing the main part of the sunshine, the sunflower seeds, but they still turned out as a pretty swell rice burger.
I’ve still got rice burgers left, frozen for quick dinners and the like (gotta have plenty of those while getting down to the study stuff eh?) but overall I’m pretty riced out. There was a lot of basmati rice in that baggie that got cooked up!
And that’s my rice story. Thrilling I know. Back to work (or something like that…) and more food stuffs that do not include rice coming shortly.
